NiMATH – The Mathematical Museum of Nicosia

Research-grade technology for Cyprus’ first interactive mathematics museum.

NiMATH – The Mathematical Museum of Nicosia is Cyprus’ first museum devoted to experiential, creative and interactive mathematics. Created and operated by Citizens in Power (CIP), it invites visitors of every age to touch, test and question mathematical ideas rather than read about them. RITE supports the museum as its research and technology partner, putting its motto, “Technology for the People”, to work in a public learning space.

Interactive exhibits. RITE contributes to the design, prototyping and technical development of hands-on exhibits, taking each piece from the mathematical idea behind it to a robust installation that visitors can operate without instruction.

Digital and technology experiences. Drawing on its Visual Sciences and Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence units, RITE develops virtual and augmented reality applications and AI-supported interactive experiences that extend the physical exhibits into immersive digital layers and open the way to personalised learning at the museum.

Educational programmes. RITE co-develops programme content for schools and teachers that connects museum mathematics with its applications in energy systems, data science and emerging technologies, so that a visit to NiMATH also opens a window onto current research.

European collaboration. NiMATH develops its exhibits in dialogue with leading European mathematics museums, among them Mathematikum (Gießen), IMAGINARY (Germany), MMACA (Catalonia), Maison Poincaré (Paris) and NEMO (Amsterdam). RITE strengthens this European dimension through its participation in EU-funded research and innovation projects, bringing co-developed exhibits, digital tools and methodologies from European consortia into the museum.
