ClassPRO aims to enhance secondary school teachers’ professional development and capacity building by equipping them with modern behaviour classroom management strategies to enable inclusive education practices. Lack of adequate training
in inclusive practices and effective teacher-student communication strategies and gaps between theory and practice are trends highlighted across consortium countries. They form the key areas addressed across the project’s work packages.
The creation of an e-learning space with interactive modules accompanied by multimedia resources and gamified microchallenges in WP2 enhances teachers’ knowledge, skills, resilience and motivation in inclusive classroom management strategies in alignment with everyday classroom realities. The application of inclusive classroom management necessitates uncovering the drivers of disruptive behaviours. Given the diversity inherent in modern multicultural and multilayered classroom settings, teachers are to increase their understanding of the often differential needs and characteristics of their students so as to provide the space for healthy behaviours. Consultations with psychologists, counsellors, SEN and migrant experts will provide an understanding of these diverse needs and personalised solutions, increasing teacher self-efficacy and self-confidence.
Teachers’ personal and professional development cannot be restricted to theoretical discussions but applied and tested in real-life settings. As such WP3 provides teachers with real-time insights into their students’ experiences. The juxtaposition of the emotional classroom environment and subject-specific contexts creates new implications for classroom management strategies. The motivation and engagement of students tend to fluctuate in specific school subjects such as STEM (McLure et al. 2022) and second language learning (Hoi 2022), thus increasing the potential for disruptive behaviours to occur, whilstreducing teachers’ capacity to manage them (Goetz et al. 2010). Thus, WP3 provides an understanding of how students’ emotional state affects their overall performance and creates a two-way street for effective communication through the
Digital Assessment tool and its Handbook. This WP opens up new possibilities for both teachers and students in subjectspecific contexts to gain key competencies and enhance their communication and learning outcomes.
To further increase teachers’ motivation, resilience, self-efficacy and confidence, WP4 provides a series of realistic scenarios by using data from the previous work packages to help teachers deal with surprises, develop professionally, and enhance their skills and inclusive classroom management practices. The gamified scenarios will also provide reports at the end of a session summarising the choices and outcomes to increase awareness of inclusive behaviour management strategies and allow for the adoption of new strategies according to students’ needs and characteristics.
